Taking Good News Relevantly To Every Young Person

‘Research which looks at young peoples views on communication with adults makes it clear that, by and large, they have little confidence that they will be listened to’ (Roche, Jeremy & Tucker, Stanley (2000)).

This quote from 'Youth and Society' is no surprise. Talking about a problem they were going through, a young girl in one school we work in said "My mum said I should talk to someone about it, you were the only person I could think of."

This is why we take the opportunities we are privileged to have in schools in and around Norwich. We have been involved in local schools for over 25 years, adapting our activities to the changing requirements and openings of the education system. Rebecca Wright, our schools worker takes part in lessons, assemblies, mentoring, breakfast clubs, lunchtime clubs, after school clubs & attendance schemes.

A View From Rebecca

"I mentor at school a morning and an afternoon a week. It is not counseling, just a chance for a young person to come and talk to me on a regular basis, about anything they want. Sometimes it might be the fact that they watched a great football game at the weekend, or that they are having problems with their friends. A couple of lunch-times a week, I will be walking round the playground for anyone else who wants a chat. We often think of the amazing things Jesus said, and His teachings. The amazing thing is that the Bible never says, ‘And Jesus interrupted,’ Jesus would listen to people, and really hear what they were saying. I doubt He was thinking of what to say next as they were talking, but listened intently."
